2026-March Nationswide Traffic Collisions

March 2026 Traffic Report: Realities Beyond the Numbers
The March 2026 data proves once again why using the term "collision" instead of "accident" is critical, as these events are preventable. Here is the traffic outlook for March:
General Overview: 55 Thousand Collisions
A total of 55,041 traffic collisions occurred nationwide in March. The distribution of these collisions reveals the magnitude of risk on our roads:
124 fatal collisions
21,172 injury collisions
33,745 property damage collisions
Remember that these figures are not just statistics; each represents an affected life, a family, and a future.
Our Losses: 140 Lives
City Performance: Ankara and Istanbul
- wo major cities stand out in terms of collision density:Property Damage Collisions: The highest number of cases occurred in Ankara
- .Loss of Life: The highest number of fatalities on a provincial basis was recorded in Istanbul with 18 deaths. Why Do We Crash?
The data clearly shows that the primary reason behind collisions is the human factor.
1. The Driver Factor Takes the Lead
Drivers are the primary actors causing collisions at an overwhelming rate of 90%. They are followed by pedestrians at a rate of 7.9%. This highlights how vital education and awareness efforts are.
2. The Apparent Cause: Speed and Weather Conditions
When driver faults in fatal and injury collisions are examined, the largest share at 37.5% is "Failure to Adjust Vehicle Speed to Road and Weather Conditions." Speed is the most fundamental factor determining the severity of a collision.
3. Collision Types
When evaluated by the type of occurrence:
"Side Impact" takes the largest share at 35%.
14% of cases unfortunately occurred as "Pedestrian Collisions."
Enforcement and Penalties Inspections continued at full speed in March to ensure road safety. A total of 2,217,338 penalties were applied nationwide. However, rather than penalties, making rules a way of life will bring the permanent solution.
Important Note: This data has been compiled from official reports published by the EGM Traffic Department. The figures include deaths occurring at the crash site and do not include property damage traffic collision numbers for which the parties involved filed their own reports by mutual agreement.
Let us reduce our speed and increase our attention for safer tomorrows on the roads. Because no destination is more valuable than a life.
